Our Life training opportunities
Spring 2012
An introduction to deliberative community engagement
28 February and 13 March 2012
Training fee - £200 per person
Location: Central Manchester. Time: 10am-4pm.
During this highly interactive and practical two-day workshop, participants will experiment with and explore the value of a deliberative approach to community engagement.
Those taking part will lead a practical engagement activity with members of the public as part of the workshop and will take part in their own deliberative activity.
After having considered in-depth case studies of Citizens Juries and Discussion kits, the group will consider how best to use such approaches in their own community engagement work.
This workshop will be facilitated by Peter Bryant, Our Life's Head of Public Engagement. Peter has over fifteen years of community engagement experience and has facilitated over ten Citizens Juries with communities across the UK.
What previous participants said about this course:

"I am really enjoying the course. The participation is great and an example of a deliberative approach, giving chance to develop views, thoughts, opinion and to feel more confident speaking."
"The way it has been run was informal and fun which made it easier to air my ideas and views without feeling intimidated by anyone. It was great to hear other people's ideas and views."

'A Fair Deal for Wellbeing' discussion kit launch workshop
Date and fee arranged on application
‘A Fair Deal for Wellbeing?' has been designed to get people thinking more about their wellbeing or that of their community, and to consider what action could be taken to improve it. Developed by Our Life in partnership with NHS North West and mental health leads, this discussion kit enables small groups of citizens to organise their own discussion about this complex issue.
The kit was launched in September 2011 and we are encouraging people to run their own launch workshops throughout the region.
The aim of these workshops is to familiarise more people with the kit and to help them to share ideas for how to get more people using it in their own patch.
If you would like Our Life's help to organise and run a launch workshop in your area and for your stakeholders/colleagues, please contact Holly Keogh at Our Life on 0161 233 7514 or email holly.keogh@ourlife.org.uk
